Children who are separated from their families at a young age often experience homesickness and feelings of loneliness. Since students spend most of their time with peers, they are more exposed to negative influences. It's very unfortunate how the Nigerian education system has failed us, especially those of us who studied applied sciences. We were meant to do more than 80% practicals, but we ended up doing 95% theory and 5% practicals. Today, we find it very difficult to apply the knowledge gained in solving day-to-day problems because we're not rooted in the practical aspect of our area of study. I laugh at undergraduates undertaking non-professional courses in science in Nigerian universities because you'll end up being like someone who hasn't benefited from the university experience. Universities in Nigeria should focus more on practicals than theory, which would enable individuals to know where to focus their energy after graduation.
